Unfortunately, Tapbots have been really lagging in getting the iPad version of the app up to iOS 7 standards. The iPhone version of Tweetbot was given an iOS 7 redesign during the latter half of 2013. Well, that last part is really what is bothering me. The application has basically everything I want in a twitter application: push notifications, position and message read status sync, mute filters, and UI that just won't quit. I have long been a fan of the Tweetbot application, a full featured and powerful Twitter client for the iOS platform. Clock - Nothing to see here, as my iPad is now my primary alarm clock and the stock app works as advertised. Now that I have AT&T's new 10GB family share plan, I have plenty of data to spare even with moderate listening. Music - I replaced Groove with the stock music player as I find myself listening more and more to iTunes Radio. For quick weather data and a view into the week ahead, I am still keeping with the stock (Yahoo data) iOS 7 app. I would like to see the UI on the iPhone show weekly forecast data on the first screen as opposed to having to swipe to the left two times. I keep it installed mainly for the precipitation push notifications that tell me when it will snow or rain in the area I am located. Additional thick lines in the corners show special areas called “camps”. Traditionally it’s chequered (fields are alternately light and dark). The Halma board is composed of 256 squares (16×16). Pieces can make jumps to achieve this goal faster. The goal of the game is to transfer all of one’s pieces from the starting corner to the opposing corner. Halma is a strategy board game with no element of luck. The rules are simple but you can devote whole life to study its strategy. It’s quite easy to understand why Halma is so successful. ![]() Halma was published by various well-known companies from the gaming market, including Parker Brothers, Piatnik, Hexagames, Milton Bradley, Gibsons and many more. The most popular of them (even more popular than Halma) is Trilma, also known as Chinese Checkers. There are more cultural references to Halma, mostly in English and American works. The game of “electronic Halma” is mentioned in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – a comedy science fiction series created by Douglas Adams. Another British poet – Eleanor Farjeon – mentions Halma in her autobiography. The comparisons referring to Halma were used by British poet and writer Mervyn Laurence Peake. Halma is important because it gained quite a lot of popularity and broke into the culture. By the way, few games with similar mechanics emerged at the turn of the 20th century. Monks developed it in 1883 and he was probably inspired by a game named Hoppity. Basilinda is all almost forgotten but Halma became a real hit. This great doctor loved games and he developed two games himself – Halma and Basilinda. He worked as a Professor of oral surgery at Harvard Dental School, but he was also connected with the department of surgical anatomy at Harvard Medical School. Later he practiced surgery in Boston and was even promoted to surgeon-in-chief in 1910 at Boston City Hospital. He studied medicine at Harvard and after graduation went to Europe for 4-years internship. George Howard Monks (1853-1933) was an interesting man. It requires relatively simple equipment, the rules are simple too, but you could devote your whole life to study its strategy. Halma gave rise to other interesting games, but it’s really great without any modifications. George Howard Monks, who developed a game called Halma, was certainly one of such people. ![]() It happens that one man creates an almost perfect game. ![]() The performance repertoire of Bharatanatyam, like other classical dances, includes nrita (pure dance), nritya (solo expressive dance) and natya (group dramatic dance). Policy-makers and communities require access to relevant, accurate data to respond to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic. The annotated time series presentation connects events and policies with observed data that may help mobilize and direct the actions of residents and other stakeholders. Such disaggregation provides granularity that decision-makers can use to respond to the pandemic. We found that COVID-19 rates vary by region and subregion, with periods of exponential and non-exponential growth and decline. We developed control charts at the county and city/neighborhood level within one state (California) to illustrate their potential value for decision-makers. Healthcare and other industries use statistical process control to study variation and disaggregate data for purposes of understanding behavior of processes and systems and intervening on them. Our aim was to demonstrate a novel use of statistical process control to provide timely and interpretable displays of COVID-19 data that inform local mitigation and containment strategies. And salsa was a way to do this so that Jerry Masucci, Fania and other record companies, like CBS, could have a hegemony on the music and keep the Cuban musicians from spreading their music abroad." Izzy Sanabria responded that Martínez was likely giving an accurate Cuban viewpoint, "but salsa was not planned that way". I play Cuban music."Ĭuban musicologist Mayra Martínez wrote that "the term salsa obscured the Cuban base, the music's history or part of its history in Cuba. On the other hand, even some New York based artists were originally against the commercialization of music under that name Machito said: "There's nothing new about salsa, it is just the same old music that was played in Cuba for over fifty years." Similarly, Tito Puente stated: "The only salsa I know is sold in a bottle called ketchup. Salsa is the harmonic sum of all Latin culture ". all the Cuban rhythms under one name." Willie Colón described salsa not as a precise musical style but a power to unite in the broadest terms: "Salsa was the force that united diverse Latino and other non-Latino racial and ethnic groups. Celia Cruz said, "Salsa is Cuban music with another name. Some have praised its unification element. Sanabria confessed the term salsa was not developed by musicians: "Musicians were busy creating the music but played no role in promoting the name salsa." įor this reason the use of the term salsa has been controversial among musicians. Consequently, his promoted events were covered in The New York Times, as well as Time and Newsweek magazines. Sanabria's Latin New York magazine was an English language publication. It's a name that everyone could pronounce. So salsa defined this particular type of music. And that was a very, very broad category, because it even includes mariachi music. The music was still defined as Latin music. I was using salsa, but the music wasn't defined by that. In 1973, I hosted the television show Salsa which was the first reference to this particular music as salsa. ![]() ![]() Puerto Rican music promoter Izzy Sanabria claims he was the first to use the word salsa to denote a music genre. Later on, while based in Mexico City, the musician Beny Moré would shout salsa during a performance to acknowledge a musical moment's heat, making a connection with the hot salsa (sauce) made in the country. Back in Cuba, influenced by spicy food salsas, he named his group Conjunto Los Salseros, with whom he recorded a couple of albums for the Panart and Egrem labels. ![]() In the mid-1940s, Cuban Cheo Marquetti emigrated to Mexico. The phrase is seen as a cry from Piñeiro to his band, telling them to increase the tempo to "put the dancers into high gear". The musicologist Max Salazar believes the origin of the connection lies in 1930 when Ignacio Piñeiro composed the song Échale salsita (Put some sauce in it). The origin of the connection of this word to a style of music is disputed by various music writers and historians. The word Salsa means sauce in the Spanish language. Graciela on claves and her brother Machito on maracas Machito said that salsa was much like what he had been playing from the 1940s. Though limited by an embargo, the continuous cultural exchange between salsa-related musicians inside and outside of Cuba is undeniable. ĭuring the same period a parallel modernization of Cuban son was being developed by Los Van Van, Irakere, NG La Banda, Charanga Habanera and other artists in Cuba under the name of songo and timba, styles that at present are also labelled as salsa. These musicians included Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades, Johnny Pacheco, Machito and Héctor Lavoe. The music style was based on the late son montuno of Arsenio Rodríguez, Conjunto Chappottín and Roberto Faz. The first self-identified salsa bands were predominantly assembled by Cuban and Puerto Rican musicians in New York City in the '70s. Originally the name salsa was used to label commercially several styles of Latin dance music, but nowadays it is considered a musical style on its own and one of the staples of Latin American culture. All of these elements are adapted to fit the basic son montuno template when performed within the context of salsa. Most songs considered as salsa are primarily based on son montuno, with elements of mambo, Latin jazz, bomba, plena and guaracha. ![]() Because most of the basic musical components predate the labeling of salsa, there have been many controversies regarding its origin.
